Libra 101

Don’t Miss Out! Domestic Brands Are Going Crazy! Tammo Libra 3.0 NVMe M.2 PCIe SSD Review

Hey everyone, it’s Le Zheng Xiao here! After our last review of the Tammo Aries SSD, many of you reached out asking if there were other Tammo products worth considering. Well, I recently discovered their Libra series and immediately purchased one to put it through its paces.

Unboxing the Tammo Libra SSD

The packaging maintains Tammo’s consistent design language, though with a distinct color scheme. While the Aries featured orange and white tones, the Libra adopts an elegant green and white palette that immediately catches the eye. The top left corner displays Tammo’s logo, with the “Libra” series name positioned below. The center showcases a balanced scale design against a green background, accompanied by a product image on the right. Specifications are clearly listed in the bottom left corner. Overall, the packaging demonstrates thoughtful design that stands out among competitors in this price range.

Inside the box, you’ll find not only the SSD itself but also included screwdrivers and mounting screws—thoughtful additions that eliminate the need for additional purchases.

Technical Specifications and Features

The Tammo Libra SSD utilizes the MaxioTech 1202 controller with 3D NAND TLC flash memory and incorporates HMB intelligent caching technology. According to official specifications, it delivers sequential read speeds up to 3500MB/s and write speeds of 3000MB/s, supported by LDPC error correction. The only potential limitation is the absence of dedicated DRAM cache, but given the competitive pricing, this represents exceptional value for money.

Testing Environment and Methodology

To ensure accurate performance evaluation, we conducted tests using a high-end configuration featuring MSI’s MPG Z790 EDGE motherboard, ADATA XPG Lancer RGB 6000MHz DDR5 memory, and an Intel Core i9-13900K processor.

The MSI MPG Z790 EDGE motherboard provides an ideal testing platform with its robust 16+1+1 phase VRM design capable of delivering 90A per phase. Enhanced thermal management includes enlarged heatsinks, direct-touch heat pipes, 7W/mK MOSFET thermal pads, and an expanded chipset heatsink. The 6-layer server-grade PCB with 2oz thickened copper ensures stable operation, creating optimal conditions for maximum SSD performance.

Connectivity features include Lightning USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 20G ports, four USB 3.2 Gen1 ports, four USB Gen2 ports, and a Gen2 Type-C interface. Video outputs comprise HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4, while networking includes WiFi 6 and 2.5G Ethernet. Audio capabilities feature 7.1 channel output and optical interfaces.

Performance Benchmark Results

CrystalDiskMark Performance

With an empty drive, sequential read speeds reached 3569MB/s with writes at 3109MB/s—slightly exceeding official specifications. At half capacity, performance remained consistent, though full drive conditions saw read speeds drop to 2673MB/s and writes to 919MB/s, representing expected performance degradation under extreme circumstances.

AS SSD Benchmark Analysis

Empty drive testing showed read speeds of 3116MB/s and write speeds of 2588MB/s, achieving an overall score of 4790 points. While this falls slightly below official claims, it still outperforms most competitors in the same price category.

Additional Performance Metrics

Untitled benchmark tests recorded peak read speeds of 3.33GB/s and writes of 2.81GB/s. For large file transfers, 50GB single file operations maintained speeds around 2.01GB/s.

Game file copying revealed some instability with speeds occasionally dropping to 62MB/s, while photo and video transfers remained consistently stable at 1.23GB/s throughout testing.

Thermal Performance

Temperature management proved excellent, with the drive maintaining between 41°C and 43°C during intensive testing—impressive thermal performance for an SSD in this class.

Final Verdict and Recommendation

As a Taiwanese manufacturer operating in the competitive storage market, Tammo has delivered an outstanding product with the Libra SSD. While some may hesitate due to brand recognition, the included 5-year warranty provides peace of mind. Priced at just over five hundred yuan for the 2TB model, the Libra represents exceptional value as either a system drive or dedicated gaming storage solution.

The Tammo Libra demonstrates that careful engineering and smart design choices can deliver performance that challenges established brands. For budget-conscious consumers seeking reliable high-speed storage, this drive deserves serious consideration.
